Racing Returns to Charleville
After two years of being inoperative, Charleville’s horse-racing track will begin hosting races in October with a grand opening at the end of the month. The announcement was made today by the Minister for Education, Minister for Industrial Relations and Minister for Racing Grace Grace, and the Mayor of Murweh Shire, Shaun (Zoro) Radnedge at the newly refurbished racetrack.
Considered one of the best race tracks in Western Queensland, over the last two years, the track has overcome engineering challenges but will begin operation again with a grand opening race day on the 28th of October thanks to the support of the State government. Minister Grace said that the Government had invested heavily to ensure the track was world-class and she was excited to see racing return to Charleville, saying she would return for the big day. “It’s fantastic to see that racing will soon return to Charleville,” said the Minister.
The Mayor of Charleville, Shaun (Zoro) Radnedge, said the return of racing was a very positive event for the town and the region. “Racing is a major event in Charleville for lots of reasons. It’s a great place to socialise, have a few drinks with friends, maybe meet some new ones. It’s an important part of county life, so its return is great news,” said the Mayor.
Local racing will begin on the 1st of October with the official opening day on the 28th.
